As a mom and a wife, I have enjoyed watching my husband interacting with our children over the years. Quite honestly, neither of us had much experience with children and had very little confidence about this “parenting thing.” Through God’s amazing grace, we have grown to realize that there is no greater joy in life than to raise up these little people in character and integrity, with a firm understanding of the Gospel and the operation of the Kingdom of God, so that we can one day release them into the world with a vision and purpose to pierce through the darkness and reflect His glorious light, and as a result change their world. Know Your Weapon
You have been preparing for crisis by filling the warehouse of your heart with provisions critical to survival in wartime. Physical provisions such as food, water, and other essentials necessary to sustain life are important, but physical provisions are only partially helpful. They are easy to steal, deteriorate, and may need to be abandoned. You can spend all your time and money saving such items, only to be left just as destitute in a crisis as if you never stocked them. The items we are stocking are much more crucial for survival, cannot be stolen, and you can take them with you where ever you go.
In a time of trouble, there is nothing more critical for your protection than your weapon. With it, you can stop or deter the enemy from attacking and protect what is yours. But in order for your weapon to be a truly useful tool, you must know your weapon – backwards and forwards, inside and out.
New military recruits receive much training with their weapon in bootcamp. They use it, clean it, take it apart, and reassemble it – over and over and over again. Why? So that they are so familiar with it, they can wield it in battle with no thought of it at all. They know it so well that it is almost like a part of them. When responding to orders, a soldier obeys, thinking only of the task at hand – not thinking, “How does this thing work?” or, “How do I load these bullets?” To flounder with your weapon while in battle is to endanger your life and the lives of your comrades.
A recruit who is not diligent in weapon training will be of no good use to his commanding officers. To the contrary, he will be a hindrance to higher authority as he will not be reliable to be called upon for missions and tasks.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:12-17
You have been issued your weapon for battle. It is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. But what good is that weapon if you don’t know how to use it? Like the soldier recruits, you must know your weapon. You need to work with it, break it down, understand it, and then aim it precisely at the enemy’s forehead. Now, while in bootcamp, is the safe time to store it up in the warehouse of your heart, and practice using it – shooting practice rounds (speaking it out until you are comfortable with it) and shooting it at the enemy (speaking it out when the enemy attacks) until you know your weapon without even thinking about it.
Christian Prepper Provision #4
Know your Weapon. You are full of the Word of God and know it at a deep level so that when the enemy attacks you know how to use it without thinking about it or feeling awkward with it. You are not afraid or ashamed to use it in front of anyone. Ever. You use it to tear down the enemy strongholds and to build up people for His name’s sake. With it God can use you to heal, mend broken hearts, strengthen his soldiers, and stop the enemy cold.
Your Bible can be taken out of your hands, but they can never take it out of your heart. This is a critical element of your provisions. It must be collected up over time. Once a crisis begins, there will be little time to store up the Word of God. Now is the time to tuck it away in your heart – a strongbox that cannot be broken into or stolen away. Little by little, fill your warehouse full of this ammunition so powerful that the enemy cannot withstand it. Practice using it. Point it at the enemy now, in the little things. Build your faith by seeing how powerful it really is. Then you will be prepared if a day of war comes and you must rely on it in the big things.
Once you know your weapon, you will be well on your way to having a perfectly stocked warehouse.

God’s Authority
A soldier prepares for war begin long before he goes anywhere near a battlefield. As a matter of fact, if he does not prepare beforehand, he is likely to die in battle, and be the cause of other soldier’s deaths or injuries as well. In like manner we must prepare a head of time for a crisis that could come our way.
Preparing for War
Where is the first place the military sends a new recruit? Straight into bootcamp. No detours. No layovers. No easy office jobs. You cannot even be a janitor until after you have entered and survived bootcamp. Why does the military do this to fresh enlistees? Are they wanting to be mean or intimidate them? Although most bootcamp residents will tell you there is a lot of that going around, harshness is not the end, it is the means to the end. In the end, the purpose of bootcamp is to ready the recruit for the battlefield. In mind and body, this new soldier must be taught and conditioned so that he will survive the conditions he may likely incur. Bootcamp is by definition, preparation for war.
What is the top priority for these new recruits the moment their boots hit the ground at bootcamp? What is the most important task for sergeants in preparing soldiers? Is it getting them in top physical shape, or teaching them military skills? As important as these things are, they are not number one on the list.
The most important thing that a soldier will learn at bootcamp is to stand under authority.
It is essential that a soldier hears a command and obeys it without questioning it or using his reasoning mind in any fashion to process it. He must obey without responding in any way to the thoughts or emotions he senses at the moment. In bootcamp, a soldier learns he will choose to obey authority, or obey his own emotions and thoughts, and that choice bares great consequences. In time, he will obey immediately and completely – he will stand under authority. In this way, the military can execute orders down through the chain of command and the task get accomplished. A soldier who is in perfect obedience is the most usable to his higher command.
Just like a soldier, we need to learn to stand under authority. God’s authority is the highest authority in existence, and learning to walk in perfect obedience to Him is our top priority in life. When we are obedient, the Spirit of God can lead us with no more than a whisper and we will do as He says. As soldiers in God’s kingdom, He can use us on the battlefield to reach the lost and help the brokenhearted. If we are led by Him, He is able to lead us quickly out of danger or straight into the heart of battle, and we are most usable by Him because of perfect obedience.
On the Battlefield
A soldier cannot simply be told, “always obey your commanding officer” and then be sent to the battlefield to do it. It takes practice. It takes a transforming of the mind to be able to obey without question or responding to emotions such as fear, anger or shock. It takes conditioning in order for him to choose to obey authority and not be dictated by emotions or thoughts. Just as his body must be trained physically, his mind must be trained to stand under authority.
With enough time and training, a soldier may have learned well to obey authority under simulated circumstances in bootcamp, but the real test comes when he heads out into a real battle where real ammunition is flying, the stakes are high, and emotions are flaring. It is in these conditions that the training proves real, because obedience – or lack of – has real-life consequences.
You must learn to stand under authority of God the same way a soldier learns to stand under his commanding ranks. When you hear God’s voice, when His spirit is wanting to lead you, but your thoughts raise logical disagreements or your emotions are screaming to be obeyed, the choice you make has dire consequences.
Christian Prepper Provision #3
You must be trained to stand under authority and do what God leads you to do no matter how much your thoughts argue or your emotions scream. You will serve only one master. Either your logic and emotions will be your master or God will be your master.
You know that in a time of war or any type of crisis, only God can possibly know the best decisions to be made. You want him to lead you. You want to be in the safely of the shelter of Most High God (Proverbs 91). But your logical thoughts will demand acknowledgement. Your emotions will insist on being obeyed.
Just like the soldier, you cannot just tell yourself that you will now obey God and then walk on the battlefield of life. As soon as your logic opposes God, or an event flares your emotions, you will find that your untrained human mind is weak against such a worthy opponent. Like the soldier, you need time to transform and condition your mind to be able to obey without questioning or responding to emotions such as fear, anger or shock. It takes conditioning in order for you to have the ability to stand under authority and not be swayed by emotions or thoughts.
You have nothing to loose and everything to gain, because you stand under authority of the King of Kings, the heavenly high-commander, the one who knows all and is all. There is nothing your brain can add to God’s knowledge, and it is foolish to question His authority or His commands.
It is imperative that you start now acquiring this item to add to your war-time provisions. Now is the time to practice total and complete obedience to your holy commander-in-chief. Now is the time to learn to stand under authority – God’s authority. Like the soldier, the real test comes when a crisis has begun, the battles are real, and your emotions are boiling over into fear. It is in these conditions that the training proves its value, because obedience – or lack of – has serious life consequences.

Know God’s Voice
In a time of war, every Christian will want God to help them, protect them, and tell them what to do to be safe and provided for. If a crisis were to erupt, prayers will fill the throne room of God, as people cry out in desperation for direction and aid. But for you to get your answers, for you to receive your help, two factors are at play. God must give the answer. And you must be able to hear the answer. In order for God to protect and provide for you, you must know God’s voice, hear God’s voice, heed God’s voice and and obey God’s voice.
I wanted to teach my youth group at church some of the principles of the Kingdom of God, so I lined up two rows of tables, forming an isle down the middle. In this isle, I placed many objects on the floor. Then, one by one, I blindfolded these teenagers and told them to walk down the middle of the isle without stepping on any objects. If they stepped on anything, all the rest of the others watching would make blowing-up sounds. First time you step on any object, you are injured. The second time, you are dead. The kids had great fun attempting to figure out how to walk this isle without getting blowing up.
Of course, no one was able to make it all the way to the end without getting blown up.
Then I gave them each another chance; however, with this second attempt to walk the isle, one of the other teenagers in the group used voice commands to walk them through. The one giving voice commands told them where to step, how big a step to take, and which way to turn to avoid objects If they listened to the commands and obeyed what they were told, they could actually make it to the end of the isle without getting blown up. If you did not listen to the voice and follow it, you would not make it. And they learned that, when obeying, details mattered. If you only listened to the parts you liked, or did not pay attention to the details, you didn’t make it.
One of the many lessons I taught out of this exercise was that you must Know God’s voice, you must hear God’s voice, and you must follow God’s voice in order for God to be able to protect you.
Know God’s Voice
The only way a father can protect a child is if that child obeys his voice. When the ball bounces out into traffic, will the child heed the father’s voice saying, “Stop!” to his own benefit and protection? Or will the child heed his own emotions screaming, “Mine!” and face the perilous consequences? The father sees more, knows more, and perceives more than the child. The father’s voice offers protection to the child – but only if the child heeds the voice. It is pure foolishness to ignore the father and run into the street. But children do it every day. They must be trained to heed the parent’s voice. Any parent knows this takes time. You cannot wait until the ball is heading for the street to begin training the child to obey the parent’s voice. This must be done ahead of time, or the child is in great danger.
When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
John 10:4
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27
If you belong to God, if you have the Spirit of God, then you are supposed to know God’s voice. God can lead you, provide for you, and protect you, but it is up to you to know God’s voice so that you can receive what He is handing you.
Christian Prepper Provision #2
You know God’s voice so well that He can lead you anywhere at any time. You know God’s voice so well that you will not mistake His voice for the enemy’s voice, or the voice of your own logical thoughts. You know God’s voice even when it is only a whisper, and you can even hear that small still voice over the loud commands of your emotions.
(Christian Prepper Provision #1)
How well do you know God’s voice? Can you hear it? Can you differentiate between His voice and the voice of another? Can you even tell the difference between when you hear God’s voice or simply the voice of your own thoughts or logic?
You cannot wait until crisis hits before you begin practicing discernment between voices. You must be, like the child with the ball, already trained to hear God’s voice, heed God’s voice and obey His voice, no matter what the circumstances are in your life. Like that father, God earnestly desires for you to be safe and provided for, but for that to happen, you must heed his voice, or you will face perilous consequences.
If war were to break out, emotions and fear will try to rule you. They will demand to be heard and obeyed. They will sound louder than God’s voice. Only those trained in discernment will correctly hear God’s voice and be lead by Him into His safety and provision.
Whether war begins or not, you must begin your training today! Only the Father can see and know everything – well beyond your ability to perceive. In all areas of your life, you need to be able to know God’s voice and be led by His Spirit. In a time of crisis, it can mean the difference between protection and peril.

Christian Prepper Provisions – Trusting God
In a time of war, things immediately change. Nothing is the same as it was before. Households are disrupted. Businesses are effected. The news continuously spews headline after headline of recent events and preposterous possibilities. People’s nerves begin to frazzle as worry for the country and for loved ones slowly mounts. Talk is plentiful, whether truth or not is no matter, as everyone feels an insatiable need to know what is going on. What could I have done to prepare for war ahead of time? What is going to happen next? Should I have listened to that crazy Christian prepper guy after all?
In time, fear sets in, patience wears thin, and emotions begin to rise. Decisions must be made and actions implemented. How will you know what to do for your family? How can you know the right thing to do? The anxiety increases as pressure mounts. It’s time for you to become a Christian Prepper.
What is a Christian Prepper?
What is a prepper? It is someone who prepares ahead of time for a future event, usually referring to difficult times when food and other provisions become scarce. Thousands of articles, books and posts exist on prepping. But we want to be a Christian prepper, so what things must we as Christians think ahead to store up for future use in a time of trouble?
Lets begin filling the storehouse of our heart with Christian prepper essentials.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6
If you want to be a Christian prepper, knowing this portion of scripture is crucial to survival in a time of war or strife. But to pull out your Bible when the missiles start flying and begin reading Philippians will not likely take away your anxiety or prove helpful to you. At least not right away. Why? Because this scripture is telling us we need to have so much trust in God that we know – deeply know – that God cares for us, knows our troubles, and earnestly desires for us to be protected and provided for. It means we trust God so much that we feel no anxiety over the things we bring to Him in prayer. We trust He sees our petitions, understands the best answer to the problem, and will answer according to what is best for us – even if the answer is not what we expected. This is a deep level of trust.
We learned that taking off the old man and putting on the new man takes a time of transition (Ephesians 4:22-24). In similar fashion, building deep trust takes a great deal of time. There must be time spent in the Word of God, reading it, studying it, abiding in it until the truth of it begins to penetrate past the barrier created by the logical thinking part of your mind and get deep into your spirit. The logical thinking part of your mind can only trust at a human level – the level where much analyzing and thinking takes place. To trust so deeply that all anxiety is gone requires a supernatural level of trust. This is the level where trust in God supersedes all your best thinking and analyzing.
Do you trust God at this level today? Or do you need to spend time with God, letting Him reveal Himself in His Word as you abide there. The trust will come as you spend time with Him.
Christian Prepper Provision #1
So here is the first provision you as a Christian prepper must ensure you have stored up for a time of war.
You trust God so much that – when the headlines announce war, rockets are flying, and rumors are more plentiful than provisions – you will be anxious for nothing. You will feel emotions, but those emotions will not dictate your decisions. Instead, you will rest in your trust of Him and respond according to the leading of His Spirit.
Let me assure you, this is not an item you can run out and buy the day the news breaks. This is an item that the Christian prepper must secure well ahead of time. Once the events begin happening and the emotions are running high, you will find it most difficult to quiet your mind enough to soak in the Word. No, by then fear and worry will rule over those who did not prepare ahead. In the heat of the moment, when decisions must be made quickly and correctly, you must already have “trusting God in all things” in your arsenal. Only Christian preppers – those who have prepared themselves by spending large amounts of time in the Word – will be able to hear God and know the best actions to take.

A Christian Response to WW3
The media is buzzing. The world is stirring. Phones are ringing and texts are flying. Why? If you have to ask, you probably haven’t gotten out of bed yet today. Once again the threat of war is looming. With the bombing of Syria Thursday and the threat of response by Russia, Iran and Syria, many are asking, “Is this the beginning of WW3?” This is not the first time this question has been asked in the past decade. The threat seems to hang in the air these days. I want to discuss a Christian response to WW3, or any similar type of threat to society. [Read more…]

Be My Valentine
Be my Valentine! Aaahhhh! Stirs up dreamy imaginations of affections lavished upon us as we relish in the indulgences of the one who adores us so! Oh, to be the center of someone’s world! To focus on the one who cannot live without me, this person who sacrifices all their desires in order to satisfy and care for me! What can I do for this person to please them because they have been so good to me? Ah, yes! This is Love! Or is it?
To the majority of the Western world, this is the mindset behind the day we enjoy called Valentine’s Day. What did I receive from my Valentine? What did I give to my Valentine? It would seem that this mindset generally prevails all throughout the year. How does my Valentine treat me? Reminds me of the words of a song popularized by Janet Jackson back in the 1980’s, “What have you done for me lately?”
Love is patient and kind
Love does not envy or boast
It is not arrogant or rude
It does not insist on its own way
It is not irritable or resentful
I Corinthians 13:4-5
The Biblical meaning of LOVE proves something quite different.
LOVE does not focus on self but on others only
LOVE never brings attention to itself
LOVE sacrifices its own needs for the needs of others
LOVE treats others based on itself, not conditionally based upon how it is treated
LOVE always responds in kindness and never fights for its right to be “right” or to set others straight
The scriptures shed a whole new light on the true meaning of “love.”
This is a tremendous challenge for the disciple of Christ because in Christ the attention is on what I can do for you, and never the reciprocal. An even greater challenge is presented when we are admonished to treat with kindness those who have handled us grievously and do not deserve to be treated with any respect at all, and to truly find joy in this response toward them This is not only unnatural but completely achievable in the nature of a human being. Perhaps we can manage to outwardly exhibit some measure of self-control enabling us to act kind, but for our hearts to be pure and truly caring towards the wrong-doer is beyond human ability.
But I say to you, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
Luke 6:27-28
These are the words of Jesus, the One whom we claim is our Master. Did he give us (and expect us to carry out) instructions that are impossible to obey?
With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19:26
The new creation is not merely a suggestion, but an absolute requirement in order to be able to walk out being a disciple of Jesus. Playing church is not enough. Enjoying our gatherings as nothing more than a wonderful time of social fellowship will never bring the maturity that unites the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:13) and transforms us into a beautiful creation formed in the image of love.
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Romans 8:9a
If we truly have the Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9b), we are a new creation. The old has passed away and the new has come (II Corinthians 5:17). Now we find that to respond to mistreatment with love is not only possible, but the initial “new natural” response, because it is rooted in true love – the image of perfect love – Jesus Christ Himself.
