Chewing the Cud
Several years ago our family relocated from our familiar city surroundings and plopped ourselves down in a small rural community looking to provide a wholesome natural lifestyle for our children where they could run, play, and squeal with delight without disturbing neighbors. We wanted them to understand eggs came from chickens rather than grocery store shelves and a hard day’s work results in an empowering sense of satisfaction that trumps the best of video games. Luke 6: 27-31
But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
Luke 6: 27-31
These are hard words to hear. But you are committed to living a Godly life, and you truly want to live the way Jesus teaches us. So you resolve to be like this.
Until that moment comes when a relative tells lies about you to other family members. Or a workmate sets you up to make you look awful in front of the boss. Or a neighbor is stealing from others in the neighborhood, including you. These are the moments when the reality of Jesus’ words really hit home. Can he really mean for me to be kind and talk kind to such as these?
At this point, it seems that Jesus has asked us to do the impossible.
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
In our natural lives, these commands are virtually impossible. If you did respond as Jesus taught, it would not be long before resentment and anger would overwhelm you.
But Jesus would not ask us to do something that is impossible to do, or that would wreak emotional trauma in us. Jesus has equipped His people with all they need to not only be obedient to this challenging command, but to do it joyfully with a pure heart.
You see, a normal human cannot behave in such a way without experiencing strong emotional resistance. But through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He has made us a new creation in Him. We are told to put off the old man with its passions and desires and put on the new man made in the likeness of His image (Ephesians 4:20-24). That new man has dwelling in him the Spirit of God, bringing with him gifts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23). Because you have the Spirit of God in you, you are perfectly and completely equipped to follow Jesus commands. We can do it, because He is in us and He can do it.
In that same scripture passage Paul reveals that the process requires renewing the mind. It is with this renewing of the mind that you can finally drop the old man with his ways and put on the new man with all the benefits and joys that come with him (Ephesians 4:20-24).
This is a part of living the supernatural life, where you do not live by your natural circumstances, but you choose rather to live by the word of God. Your emotions and the Word of God are going to conflict. You must choose which you will live by. It is not easy, but you are equipped to do it if you belong to Jesus. What is impossible for man to do, you can do because the Spirit of God dwells within you.

Scripture of the week is designed to assist you in renewing your mind through the Word of God. We choose a scripture and include a short commentary so that you can meditate on them for the week. Please do not read it once and move on. Print it out and read it over and over during the week so that your mind can be reprogrammed (Romans 12:2) in the supernatural Word of God!

This scripture just stumped me when the Lord showed it to me. I knew the blood of the Lamb was powerful to conquer the enemy. After all, the Word says that Jesus came to destroy every work of the enemy. (I John 3:8). But there is something else that conquers the enemy [Read more…]

Lesson 9 – Kingdom Mindset
At this point you have begun to glimpse the wonder of Kingdom of God. Something on the inside of you is waking up to the realization of the power and the majesty of this Kingdom, and you feel an excitement knowing that you have begun a journey that will lead you into the deeper things of Christ. You do not yet know how to walk in it, but do not fret. There will be future teaching series in the Word to teach you how to walk out this amazing, glorious Kingdom walk!
Our next step is to be sure we have the proper mindset concerning our lives. I have identified what I believe to be the 2 most prominent mindsets in our western society, and I want to present them to you in order for you to assess which mindset you are currently living by, and to see if you need to make a shift into a proper Kingdom mindset.
The first mindset I have identified as being prominent in our society is one I have termed a Governmental Mindset. In a Governmental Mindset, you are looking for and expecting someone – in this case the government – to be responsible for you and take care of you. Please do not misunderstand me or misquote me. I am all in favor of governmental assistance to those in need, and I do not think it a sin or a problem to utilize those services. When you need help and there is help offered, there is nothing wrong with accepting help; however, we should each be responsible for our own lives and accept the help with gratitude, thankfully knowing that someone had to sacrifice for that assistance to be available to you and that God was the true source. With a governmental mindset you depend on the government for your provision, peace, or happiness. The problem with that is you are depending on something or someone other than God. Only God is the true provider and protector, and only in Him can you find true happiness.
The second mindset I have identified I call the American Mindset. In the American Mindset you consider that the ultimate success in life is to be wealthy, to be your own boss, to have control over your life. The American Mindset says, “I will decide what I will do. No one tells me what to do. I can do it myself.” This mindset is promoted everywhere from T.V. to movies to magazines. The lifestyles of sports figures, movies stars, music artists are all promoting the American Mindset. I have seen fathers play an entire week’s paycheck on the lotto, all in a desperate attempt to win a few million dollars so that he can feel “successful.” This is a dangerous illusion and extremely alluring. It is right out of the pages of Genesis, when Satan tempted Eve with the illusion that she could be just like God. When you have fallen in the trap of the American Mindset, you are depending on only one person – yourself, and your own abilities. God is not looked to for anything, except to get you out of the ditch when you fail.
Both of these previous mindsets are traps designed to distract you from the only true place of provision and peace. The only mindset we should have is the Kingdom Mindset. Most of us in the West do not really understand a kingdom mindset. We think in terms of “we the people” and are not familiar with kingdom forms of government. A kingdom is ruled by a king and the people are subjects to the king. In God’s Kingdom, God is the ultimate authority, and we are his subjects. Everything we do is for our king. Our only priority is to accomplish His will, and we should clear our lives of anything else that is not related to Jesus’ will for our lives. We as subjects are fully dependent upon the King for every aspect of our lives.
This is the Kingdom mindset. We are not our boss – Jesus is! God placed in us talents and abilities for His glory. He puts us in specific places for His glory. In a Kingdom mindset, only God’s opinion, God’s word, God’s glory and God’s work should be our focus. And since He is the perfect Father, His concern is for you. He cares for you and you can depend on Him for everything knowing that He will provide.
Now it is time to consider which mindset has been dominating you. Is it time to change how you think about your life? Do you need to reconsider your priorities in life? I did. I realized I need major changes, and I cleared my life of everything that is not Kingdom purposed. This did not happen in one day. This process took time. But it has proven to be the best decision for me and my family. I am now a Kingdom Purpose Woman.
Are you ready to take steps to become a Kingdom Purpose Woman?
